Despite riding high in 1st place in the AL East, the injuries keep mounting for the Tampa Bay Rays. Certainly the baseball season is lengthy and such wounds are par for the course of 162 games. Jason Vargas has emerged as the perfect No. 2 starter for the Seattle Mariners, proving it again on Wednesday night (May 9). Going up against the Detroit Tigers, Vargas pitched 8 strong innings, giving up just 1 run and 5 hits. During the postgame interview, he even noted that pitching the ninth inning could have happened, but that manager Eric Wedge decided to go with closer Brandon League.
