It's impossible to talk about the San Diego Padres' 2010 season without using some variation of the word "surprise." As in, they were surprisingly good for so long that it's pretty surprising they've fallen so quickly. On Aug. 26, they had 76 victories and were — surprisingly (OK, shockingly) — tied with the New York Yankees and the Tampa Bay Rays in the loss column in the race for baseball's best record.
